Will I have a baby boy or a girl?

Our next question is one that I’ve had to answer several times in the past…

Will I have a boy or a girl?

The answer is : You have a 50:50 chance of either one!

Based on genetics, you’ve got two X chromosomes if you’re a woman, and one X and one Y if you are male. Now barring any genetic mutations (XXX, XYY, XXO variants) that means that if you give one gene to your offspring each, then the options are:

X from Mom, X from Dad = XX = girl

X from Mom, Y from Dad = XY = boy

You’re going to get an X from your mom regardless, so it does not influence your sex… but from your dad, you have a 50:50 chance of having either an X or a Y! So that’s what determines your sex.

What we don’t understand is why there are more females in the World than males, it’s just another one of those life mysteries.

Poor wives of King Henry… so many of them were killed because of their inability to give him a male heir! And to think, all this time it was his fault :)
